Yeah I think the raised bed idea is the way to go especially if you want better drainage. The soil in that corner of the yard has always been a bit heavy and clay-like so raising it up should help the roots breathe. I'd recommend going with cedar since it holds up well against moisture and won't need replacing for years. You can find pre-cut kits at most home supply stores but if you want to save a bit just buy the lumber and cut it yourself.

For the depth I'd say at least 12 inches so the tomatoes and peppers have room to spread out. Also consider adding a layer of gravel underneath before you put the soil in. That extra step makes a big difference when we get those heavy spring rains. Let me know if you want help assembling it I've got a cordless drill and some deck screws we can use. Should only take an afternoon once the materials are ready.

We ended up taking the ridge trail instead of the river loop and it was definitely the right call. The views opened up about a mile in and you could see the whole valley from the top. I'd suggest starting early though because the parking lot fills up by 9am on weekends. The trail itself is moderately challenging with a few steep sections but nothing too technical.

We brought about a liter of water each and that was enough for the full loop which took us around three hours with a few breaks. There's a nice shady spot about halfway where you can sit on some flat rocks and have a snack. The trail markers are clearly posted so you don't really need a map but I always carry one just in case. If you decide to go let me know and I can lend you my hiking poles they help a lot on the descent.
