Thanks for the note about the kitchen island. We ended up going with the butcher block top and it has been really great so far. The main reason we picked it over something like quartz was the warmth it brings to the room. We apply a mineral oil finish every few weeks and it keeps the wood looking nice and rich. The island is six feet by three feet which gives us plenty of room for prep work without crowding the kitchen. We added two pendant lights above it and that changed the whole feel of the space. If you decide to go this route make sure the wood gets sealed evenly on all sides to prevent any moisture issues later on. Let me know if you want the info for the supplier we used. They offered a few different grades and the middle option was a solid choice for the price.

I looked into the weekend trail conditions and the forecast looks good for the hike we talked about. The route goes around the lake first and then climbs up to a ridge with a really nice view of the valley. It is about 8 miles total with some gentle uphill sections so we should plan for around 4 hours including breaks. Starting early around 7 would help us avoid the afternoon crowds and also makes parking easier since the lot is small. We can meet at my house and drive together from there. Bring a light jacket because it tends to get breezy along the ridge even when it is warm at the base. I will bring snacks and plenty of water for everyone. Let me know if that timeline works for your schedule and we can finalize the plan.
