oh I completely get it — we ran into the same issue with our rental car deposit last spring. They ended up holding the hold for nearly three weeks after we returned the vehicle. I kept calling and each agent told me something different. Finally someone from the back office explained that the system automatically flags certain transactions when the drop-off location differs from the pickup location. Totally made sense after the fact but nobody tells you that upfront. Anyway I hope yours clears faster than ours did. Just keep the return receipt handy and check your statement every couple of days. We were about to dispute it but then it just dropped off randomly on a Thursday morning.

My brother had a similar thing happen with a hotel in Portland. They charged a security deposit and then said it would release within 24 hours of checkout but it took almost ten days. The front desk manager finally admitted that the third-party booking site had a separate authorization system that didn't sync properly with their property management software. So annoying. At least you caught it early — I think most people don't notice for weeks.

Anyway if it doesn't clear by the end of this billing cycle I'd call your card issuer and ask them to initiate a provisional credit. That usually gets things moving on the merchant's side. Let me know how it shakes out.

yeah I totally forgot to reply to this earlier — sorry about that. We finally got the kitchen backsplash finished last weekend and it came out way better than I expected. We went with those zellige tiles in a soft cream color and the grout lines are slightly uneven which actually gives it that handmade look we wanted. The contractor said it would take two days but it stretched to four because some tiles had different thicknesses and they had to shim a few spots. Honestly worth the wait though.

My advice if you're thinking about doing yours — order at least fifteen percent extra because they'll pull some that are chipped or have weird glaze drips. We ended up needing eight extra tiles from the second batch and thank goodness the dye lot matched. Also be prepared for the cleanup to take longer than the install. We're still finding tiny bits of thinset on the countertops and floor. My partner is already talking about doing the backsplash in the laundry room next but I'm going to need a few months before I tackle another tiling project. Anyway happy to share photos if you want to see how it turned out — just let me know and I'll send them over this weekend.
