We just got back from a weekend in the mountains. The weather was perfect – cool mornings and warm afternoons. We hiked the ridge trail and saw a family of deer near the creek. The wildflowers were in full bloom, patches of purple and yellow everywhere. The kids collected pine cones and smooth stones. We packed a simple lunch of sandwiches and fruit, ate overlooking the valley. I had almost forgotten how quiet and still it gets up there. No phone signal for miles, which was actually a relief. We spent hours just sitting on the big flat rock at the summit. It was one of those days that makes you feel grateful. We’re already planning the next trip, maybe a different trail next time. Can’t wait to go again.

I finally signed up for guitar lessons after putting it off for years. The first few sessions were rough on my fingertips, but it’s getting easier. My teacher is patient and mixes in songs I actually like, which keeps me motivated. I practiced the basic chords over and over – G, C, D – until my hand remembered the shapes. Last week I managed to play a simple version of “Brown Eyed Girl” and felt like a rock star. The best part is that I can learn at my own pace. No pressure to perform, just the joy of making sound. I’m thinking about getting an acoustic with a wider neck, maybe at a local shop. My goal is to play around a campfire by summer. Even if I never become great, it’s a fun way to unwind.
