I think the best path for your deck project is to go with pressure-treated pine for the frame and then use composite decking on top. The key is making sure the joists are at least 2x8 and spaced no more than 16 inches apart so you have solid support. You'll also want to think about the ledger board attachment to the house - that's where most issues come up. If you use galvanized lag screws with washers and make sure to flash it properly, you won't have water damage down the road. For the stairs, building them with a 7-inch rise and 11-inch run is comfortable for most people. Don't forget to check your local building codes because some areas have specific requirements for railing height and spacing between balusters. You might also want to add a small landing at the bottom if the ground slopes away. The total time for a project like this is usually about two weekends if you have the right tools and maybe one extra helper for the heavy lifting. Just take your time with the layout and everything will come together nicely.

For the camping trip in August, I think we should aim for the Lost Creek site because it has better shade and is closer to the water access point. We'll need to reserve at least two sites since we have six tents now. Everyone should bring their own chair and a headlamp because it gets dark early under the trees. For meals, we can do a group breakfast each morning — I'll bring the griddle and make pancakes and eggs. Everyone can sign up for one dinner slot so the work is spread out. Make sure to pack a thick sleeping pad because the ground is rocky in that area. I learned that the hard way last year. Also, the ranger said there's a burn ban starting mid-month so we'll need to use camp stoves instead of a fire pit for cooking. We can still do a small propane fire table for hanging out at night if someone brings one. Let me know if you want to handle the reservation or if you want me to do it. I can call the ranger station tomorrow morning to check availability for those dates.
