I just got back from the hardware store. I'm planning to build a raised garden bed in the backyard this weekend. The lumber prices have gone down a bit, so it felt like the right time to start the project. I found a really simple design online that uses just four planks and some corner brackets. No soil yet, but I'll pick that up once the frame is assembled. My neighbor said the local gardening club is giving away free compost next Saturday, which is perfect timing. I'm thinking of planting tomatoes, peppers, and maybe some basil. It'll be nice to have fresh ingredients right outside the door. I also picked up some cedar boards because they naturally resist rot and insects. Hopefully I can get the whole thing built in an afternoon. The weather forecast looks great for the weekend, so I am optimistic.

I finally got around to reading that book you recommended, the one about the history of cartography. It's fascinating how much political influence mapmakers had back in the day. The amount of detail they managed to capture without any satellite imagery is incredible. I'm only about halfway through, but the chapter on medieval navigation techniques really stood out to me. It makes you appreciate how far technology has come since then. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. I'll let you know when I finish it. By the way, did you see that exhibit at the natural history museum last month? I heard they had some original maps from the Age of Exploration on display.
