We ended up deciding on the Saturday date since most people were available then. I think having it at the park pavilion works well because there is enough shade and picnic tables for everyone. We still need to figure out who is bringing what dish. Sarah mentioned she would handle the drinks again which was helpful last time. The grill situation at that pavilion has two large charcoal grills so we should be fine for cooking. I was thinking we could do a simple signup sheet online so people can coordinate sides and desserts. Let me know if you think we should also reserve the nearby volleyball court for the kids. That seemed popular at the last gathering and gave the younger ones something to do while the adults visited. I can call the parks office tomorrow to check availability for that court just to be safe.

Also I wanted to ask whether you think we should plan for a rain backup location. The forecast looks clear right now but having a contingency would save scrambling later. The pavilion has a roof over the tables so light rain would be manageable but heavy storms would be a problem. Maybe the community center down the street has a room we could use if needed. I will look into that as well unless you have another suggestion.

One more thing about the food arrangements. I think we should assign a few people to handle setup and cleanup so the same folks are not stuck doing everything. Last time a handful of people ended up staying an extra hour to clean while others left early. A rotating schedule might work better and would spread the responsibility around. Let me know what you think about that approach.

The contractor confirmed that the kitchen cabinets should arrive by next Tuesday which means installation can start midweek. We went with the maple finish in the end because it matched the countertop sample better than the oak options. The timeline he gave us suggests the whole project will take about three weeks from start to finish including the backsplash work. We still need to pick out the hardware handles for the drawers and cabinet doors. I was leaning toward brushed nickel but my partner prefers the matte black style. We might compromise and use the black for the island cabinets and nickel for the rest. The flooring people are scheduled for the following week after cabinets are done.

Also I wanted to mention that we measured the pantry space again and found that adding a pull-out shelf system would maximize storage considerably. The contractor quoted an extra two days for that work. We are thinking it is worth the additional time since the pantry is narrow and deep. Having pull-out shelves would make accessing items in the back much easier.

Another consideration is the lighting situation above the island. We are looking at pendant lights that would hang lower than the current fixtures. The electrician said rewiring for that would be straightforward and could be done while the ceiling is open during the cabinet work. We have not selected fixtures yet but I have been browsing options that match the cabinet hardware style we are leaning toward.
