Hey, thanks for checking in about that hiking trail we talked about last week. I finally made it out there on Saturday and it was absolutely worth the drive. The weather was perfect, not too hot, and the views from the top were incredible. We took the longer loop around the lake, which added about two miles, but it was mostly shaded so it didn't feel too strenuous. I saw a couple of deer near the old ranger station, which was a nice surprise. The parking situation was better than I expected, we got there around 9 AM and there were still plenty of spots left. If you decide to go, make sure you bring enough water because there aren't many places to refill along the way. Also, the trail markers were a bit confusing around the halfway point, so keep an eye out for the orange blazes. Let me know if you end up planning a trip, I'd love to hear what you think.

I finally finished that book you recommended, the one about the history of mapmaking. It took me a while to get through it because it's so dense, but it was absolutely fascinating. I had no idea how much political intrigue went into drawing borders. The chapter on the expeditions was my favorite part, it really felt like an adventure story. There were these incredible details about how they had to deal with uncharted territories and the different methods they used to measure distances. I started looking at my maps app completely differently after reading it. I've already passed it along to a colleague who loves history, so hopefully it makes its way around. Thanks again for suggesting it, it's not something I would have picked up on my own, but I'm really glad I read it. Do you have any other suggestions that are similar but maybe a bit shorter? I'm thinking about what to read next on my commute and I need something a bit more portable. Let me know what you think.
