yeah I totally get what you mean about that documentary — the pacing was off in the middle but the ending really brought it together for me. I actually watched it twice because the first time I missed a whole subplot with the neighbor character. my roommate walked in during the final scene and was so confused but I just waved them off. anyway if you haven't seen the director's earlier short film it gives a lot of context for the style choices here. honestly I think the cinematography carried some of the weaker dialogue moments but overall it was a solid watch. let me know if you want to borrow my blu-ray copy.

we tried that new place on the corner last weekend — the one with the blue awning? yeah that one. the wait was about twenty minutes which felt long but the food came out fast once we ordered. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and honestly it was better than I expected. the sauce had a little kick to it. my friend got the salad and said it was fine but nothing special. I'd probably go back but only during off-peak hours. the playlist was weird though — like eighties pop then suddenly classical then back to pop again. made the whole meal feel a bit like a fever dream but in a fun way.

oh and I finally started that book you left at my place last month. took me a while to get into it because the first chapter jumps around a lot but by chapter three I was hooked. the main character reminds me of someone we used to know actually — that intense focus on small details while missing the big picture. I'm about halfway through now and I keep staying up way too late reading. I'll drop it back off when I'm done unless you want me to mail it.

honestly I wasn't sure about taking the train instead of driving but it actually worked out really well. I got a seat by the window and just watched the fields go by for a couple hours. there was a kid a few rows back who was so excited every time he saw a cow that it made the whole ride entertaining. I finished two chapters of that book I've been trying to get through for weeks and even had time to just stare out the window without feeling guilty about doing nothing. I might make it a regular thing honestly — the station is only ten minutes from my place and the ticket was cheaper than parking would have been.

my neighbor's cat somehow got onto our balcony again yesterday morning. I was making coffee and heard this little meow and there she was just sitting on the railing like she owned the place. I had to lure her back with a piece of cheese because she wasn't budging. the neighbor was mortified when I knocked on her door but I thought it was kind of funny. that cat has zero fear of heights and apparently zero interest in staying home. anyway I've started keeping the balcony door fully shut now because I can't keep playing cat rescue before breakfast.

I tried making sourdough from scratch last weekend — the starter took forever to get bubbly and I almost gave up twice. but the first loaf came out actually edible which felt like a huge win. it was a bit dense and the crust was maybe a little too dark but the butter melted into it perfectly so I call it a success. I've already started a second batch and I'm trying a different flour blend this time. my kitchen counter looks like a flour bomb went off but I'm having fun with it. if this one turns out okay I might bring you a slice.
