I think the trail we talked about is definitely manageable in a single day if we get an early start. The elevation gain is spread out over the first few miles so it never feels too punishing. I checked the forecast and it looks clear and mild for Saturday which should be perfect. We should aim to be at the trailhead by seven at the latest. I usually pack a sandwich and some fruit for a midpoint break and there is a nice shaded spot about halfway where we can sit and rest. The last mile is mostly downhill so it goes quickly. I think the approach we discussed for the raised beds makes a lot of sense once we factor in the sunlight patterns across the yard. The south-facing side gets the most consistent light so locating the tomatoes and peppers there should work well. I spoke with the supplier yesterday and they confirmed they can deliver the soil blend and compost next Thursday. We will need to assemble the frames beforehand so everything is ready. I was thinking we could use cedar for the sides since it holds up well against moisture. The irrigation line can run along the back edge and tie into the existing spigot without too much trouble. I also picked up a few packets of basil and rosemary seeds to plant along the borders. Let me know if you want to adjust the layout at all before I submit the order for the lumber.
