Yes, I think that approach for the book club meeting makes sense. We have about twelve people coming next Thursday, and I was thinking we could rotate who brings snacks each month instead of everyone bringing something. That way we avoid having too much food and people can focus on the discussion. Last time we had six different dips and three desserts, which was wonderful but also a bit overwhelming. For the novel selection, I was leaning toward that historical fiction title we talked about, the one set in the Pacific Northwest during the 1920s. It has strong character development and the prose is quite evocative without being overly dense. Several members mentioned they enjoy atmospheric writing, so it could be a good fit. We can finalize the pick during the meeting and set a page target for the first discussion. I will bring printed discussion guides as usual, and I have a few questions prepared to get the conversation started.
Also on the scheduling front, I wanted to check if the second Tuesday of each month still works for everyone going forward. I know two people had conflicts with the first Tuesday, and the third Tuesday seemed to be a problem for others. The second Tuesday appeared to have the best attendance in previous months, so I think that is our strongest option. Let me know what you think and I will send out the updated calendar invites.

I wanted to follow up on the garden planning for this spring. I measured the raised beds yesterday and we have roughly forty square feet of planting space available in the back yard. The soil tested slightly acidic, around 6.2 pH, which should work well for most vegetables. I was thinking we could plant tomatoes along the south-facing side where they will get the most sun, and maybe put the peppers and herbs on the east end where they get partial shade in the afternoon. For the trellis, I am considering pole beans or climbing cucumbers along the fence line. I have seeds from last year that should still be viable if they were stored properly. I will check the germination rates this weekend by placing a few samples between damp paper towels.
If the weather cooperates, I would like to get the soil amended and turned by mid-April so we can plant after the last frost date. The local extension office said the average last frost is around the second week of May, so we have some time to prepare. Let me know if you want to adjust the layout or add anything else to the planting list. I can pick up compost and any amendments this weekend if that works for you.
