Morning hikes are definitely the better choice for this area because the temperature stays cool until around 10 and the trail is much less crowded. You can park right at the trailhead without any trouble if you arrive before 7. The loop trail to the ridge takes about two and a half hours at a steady pace and there are several viewpoints along the way where you can stop for photos. Make sure to bring sunscreen even for morning hikes since the exposed sections can be intense after 9. The stream crossing near the halfway point is usually easy to navigate unless there has been recent rain. I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes with good grip because some sections of the trail are quite rocky and uneven. The descent on the back side of the loop is steeper than the ascent so take your time there. The parking lot starts filling up by mid-morning so an early start really makes the experience more enjoyable.

The raised bed approach works well for most vegetables because you can control the soil quality and drainage much better than planting directly in the ground. I built mine about eighteen inches high which is comfortable to work with and deep enough for root vegetables. The key is layering cardboard at the bottom to suppress weeds then filling with a mix of topsoil and compost. You want the soil level to be about two inches below the top of the frame so water doesn't run off. Drip irrigation makes watering much easier and more consistent than hand watering. I set mine on a timer for early morning watering which reduces evaporation and keeps the foliage dry to prevent disease. The tomatoes and peppers have been producing well with this setup and the basil has been thriving along the edge of the bed. Adding a layer of mulch on top helps retain moisture and keeps the soil temperature stable during hot spells.
