I finally did that hike up to Eagle Lake. It was tougher than I expected but totally worth it. The elevation gain was no joke, my legs are still feeling it. We packed a picnic but forgot the napkins, classic. The water was crystal clear and so cold. Saw a few chipmunks and a deer way off in the distance. Definitely recommend going early in the morning before the crowds show up. The parking situation is a nightmare otherwise. We got there around 7 AM and had the place almost to ourselves. By the time we left around noon, there were cars lined up down the road. Anyway, just thought I'd share in case you were looking for a weekend adventure. Let me know if you want the trail details. I took a ton of photos but they honestly don't do it justice. The smell of the pines and the fresh air was the best part of the whole experience.

I attempted that sourdough recipe from the book you lent me. It took about three days from start to finish. The starter was surprisingly easy to keep alive. I named it Bread-ict Cumberbatch. The first loaf came out a bit flat, like a frisbee. But the second one actually rose properly and had a nice crust. The crumb was a bit dense but the flavor was incredible. I added some rosemary and sea salt on top. I brought it to the potluck and it disappeared in like ten minutes. I think the key is really letting it ferment slowly in the fridge overnight. Anyway, I'm hooked now. I've already started a new batch. It's so satisfying to make something so fundamental from scratch. You should come over and we can bake together sometime. I'll text you the modifications I made to the recipe.
