Yeah I finally went on that hike we talked about last month. The trail was actually way easier than I expected which was nice because the weather turned pretty humid halfway through. We started around 7am to beat the heat but by 10 it was already pretty sticky out there. The view from the top was worth it though you could see the whole valley and there was this little cabin at the summit that sells lemonade which felt super random but also exactly what we needed. I think I drank about three glasses before we even sat down to rest. The descent was quick and we grabbed lunch at that diner near the trailhead. Their patty melt is seriously underrated. Anyway you should come with next time I think you'd like the distance it's only about 4 miles round trip. I checked the forecast and next weekend looks clear so maybe we can plan it then.

I finally tried making that carbonara recipe you sent me and honestly I'm mad at myself for waiting this long. The whole thing only took about fifteen minutes once the pasta was cooked and I didn't screw up the egg mixture which I was really nervous about. I used guanciale instead of pancetta because the Italian market had it and it made a huge difference in the richness. My roommate walked in while I was tossing the pasta and said the kitchen smelled incredible. I served it with a simple arugula salad on the side and a glass of that cheap red we like. Next time I want to try adding some mushrooms or maybe peas even though I know that's not traditional. You should come over this weekend I'll make it again and we can open that bottle of wine you've been saving. Let me know if Friday works for you.
