Hi there —
You asked about the best way to approach the trail loop near Pine Creek. I have done that route a few times now and I think the best plan is to start from the north trailhead before 8 am. The morning light is really nice and you avoid the afternoon heat. The full loop is about 7 miles with a moderate incline. Bring plenty of water and a snack for the mid-point rest. There is a small stream crossing about halfway, so wear shoes that can handle a bit of moisture. The markers are clear but I always carry a downloaded map just in case. If you want a shorter option, you can take the east spur which cuts off about 2 miles and still gives you the overlook view. Let me know if you want me to join — I can meet you there next Saturday morning.
Also, I checked the park website and there is no fee this month, just a parking registration at the kiosk. The trail should be open, they finished the maintenance work last week. I would suggest starting early because the lot fills up by 9. Hope this helps you plan.

A few people have asked about the community book swap we mentioned at the last meeting. Here is what I have planned so far. We will set up tables in the park pavilion on the second Saturday of next month from 10 am to 2 pm. Everyone brings books they have already read and can take home the same number of books from the swap. I thought we could sort them into categories — fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, and children's books — to make browsing easier. A few neighbors offered to bring coffee and snacks. I will put out a sign-up sheet next week so we know how many tables we need. If the weather does not cooperate, we can move into the community room at the library, which I have already reserved as a backup. Let me know if you want to help with setup or sorting. I could use an extra pair of hands around 9 am that morning. We will also have a small donation box for anyone who wants to contribute to the library fund, though that is optional.
