I think the trail conditions should be fine by Saturday morning as long as we start before the afternoon heat sets in. The ranger mentioned the loop is about six miles with a moderate elevation gain, so we should plan for around three and a half hours of steady walking including a short break at the overlook. I can bring the map and compass, and if someone else carries the first aid kit we should be well covered. We will need to carry at least a liter of water each because there is no reliable stream along that ridge. I checked the weather and it looks like partly cloudy with a slight breeze, so no rain gear needed unless you want to be extra cautious. I will pack some trail mix and sandwich supplies for everyone, just let me know if anyone has dietary restrictions.

I think the best approach for the neighborhood potluck is to assign each household a course rather than letting everyone bring whatever they want, because last time we ended up with seven desserts and almost no main dishes. If we split it into appetizers, sides, mains, and desserts, then each street can coordinate among themselves. I can take care of the sign-up sheet and send it around by Wednesday. We should also set up a few tables in the community courtyard and ask the building manager about reserved parking for that evening. I will bring a large cooler with ice for drinks and maybe a couple of side dishes that travel well. Let me know if you think we should do a theme or keep it open. I was thinking something simple like late summer harvest would work without being too complicated.
