Cyberattack targets higher-ed via PeopleSoft software
A cyberattack last week by the group ShinyHunters targeted over 100 organizations, primarily higher ed institutions, by exploiting vulnerabilities in Oracle's PeopleSoft software. Google Threat Intelligence Group and Mandiant report that some institutions blocked the attack, but others had data stolen and published. The attack follows a recent breach of Instructure's Canvas.

Abrupt college closures disrupt lives despite oversight
Recent abrupt closures of Anna Maria College and Hampshire College have highlighted shortcomings in Massachusetts' Financial Assessment & Risk Monitoring law, which was designed to prevent such events. Students and faculty were left scrambling, with little notice and no severance, prompting calls for stronger oversight. State Rep. Jeff Roy suggests revising the law to require 18 months' notice before closure.
