Hi there — I finally picked up those new shelves for the den and started laying out how I want to organize things. I remembered you mentioned you had a similar setup with your nonfiction collection. Did you end up grouping by topic or by author last name? I am leaning toward topic because I think it will be easier to find things when I am in the middle of a project. The lower two shelves will hold the heavier reference books and the upper ones will be for lighter reading and a few small plants. I still need to decide whether to paint the back panel a darker tone or leave it white. The room gets good afternoon light so I worry about fading if I go too dark. Let me know what you think about the spacing between shelves too — I have about twelve inches per row but some of my art books are taller than that.

AAA — roadside assistance and more

I looked into the trail conditions for next weekend and it looks like the north loop is still a bit muddy from the rain last week. The south ridge trail should be dry enough though and it offers better views in the morning anyway. We could start at the ranger station around 7am, take the south route up to the lookout point, and then loop back via the creek path. That should put us at about eight miles total with a moderate elevation gain. I checked with the park office and they said the gate opens at 6:30 so we will have plenty of time to park and gear up. They also mentioned that the bridge over the lower creek is still under repair so we will need to use the log crossing about fifty yards upstream. It is stable but might be slick if there is dew. I will bring my walking stick in case anyone needs extra balance. For lunch I was thinking we could stop at the granite outcropping about halfway — there is a nice flat spot there with some shade. Let me know if you want to adjust the route or if you have anyone else joining. I can also bring extra water if needed.
