Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,
I want to extend my deepest, most sincere gratitude to all of you for your incredible patience, flexibility, and understanding regarding Friday’s unexpected school cancellation.
In my 22 years in education, I can safely say I have never been the leader of the only school closed in the area! It was an unprecedented situation and your supportive messages and grace reminded me just how special and tight-knit our school family truly is. Thank you for rolling with the punches.
Now, let’s focus on the good stuff ahead! We have a beautiful week lined up to celebrate our amazing students:
-
Tomorrow: Promotion Ceremony We are so excited to honor our 6th graders tomorrow.
-
Rescheduled Field Day & Picnic The fun is not canceled—just delayed! We have successfully rescheduled our Field Day and community picnic.
Because of the rescheduling of our beloved family picnic to the early release day on the last day of school we need all families to respond to this survey to let us know how your child(ren) will be dismissed on Wednesday, June 17.
If a parent guardian will attend the picnic, we request that your child(ren) be dismissed with you when you are done at the picnic. All students will have the option to be dismissed to the bus, Kiss & Ride, walker, or SACC at 2:05 p.m. if you indicate on the form.
Please respond to this survey by the end of the day Monday, June 15.
If you have questions please contact the Franklin Sherman Front Office at 703-506-7900.
Let us know your plans now by filling out this form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSduD96XTDgp75tG6O4p_9CoFzhM9zckqZDMQ6LnHDSdHPg8kg/viewform

Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27
FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number has been reduced from eight to four days.
Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.
Dates Our school’s early release Wednesdays
Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays, including the list of early release dates.
Calendar Survey
FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff will receive an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey.
Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.
If you do not receive a link to the survey or have technical difficulties completing the survey, please contact the FCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation.

Franklin Sherman Family Impact Campaign
Dear Franklin Sherman Families,
We all want the very best for our kids and our school.
As you heard at the Principal’s Coffees this week, our administration is working hard to preserve critical staffing and student support resources that are not fully funded this year or next. As a community, we have an opportunity to help.
Click here for FSES Family Impact Campaign
The PTA spring fundraiser is focused on just that. The impact campaign helps you see exactly what you’re helping provide. Covering supplies helps free up school funds for staffing and educational materials, and purchasing everyday supplies like paper and notebooks support hands-on learning (and time away from devices!).
If each family contributes $35 per child, we can fully meet our needs.
Thank you for being part of a community that shows up for our students and our school.
A huge thank you to the incredible first 5 families who contributed - the Parsons family, the Gutierrez family, the Baeder family, the Dreyfuss family and the Steger family!
