The Black List is continuing its expansion into the book world through a new partnership with Simon & Schuster, which will make thousands of the publisher’s titles discoverable for screenwriters and producers looking for their next adaptation project. University presses from across the country are gathering in Seattle for this year’s AUPresses conference, which ends today, to talk AI, DEI, and the future of academic publishing. Roxane Gay and Debbie Millman have debuted the newly revamped Rumpus after acquiring the online literary magazine last year. And in its first year since going public, McGraw Hill logged a profit of $35.3 million in fiscal 2026—and is eager to ramp up its AI efforts. In other news, Rhode Island passed a bill limiting what publishers can charge when licensing e-books to public libraries, prompting the Connecticut Library Consortium to call on their legislature to do the same, via Library Journal. Meanwhile, USA Today investigates why the cost of books is ticking up, and how readers are coping. Caro Claire Burke’s Yesteryear and Tayari Jones’s Kin are two of the most popular titles of the year so far, according to Goodreads’ ranking.
