Hi Niepodam,

If you've spent any time in science of reading circles online, you've seen the arguments.

Blends or consonant clusters? Does a letter "spell" a sound or "say" a sound? Magic E or Silent E or CVCe or Sneaky E? What's the correct order for your scope and sequence?

Some of these conversations are genuinely useful.

And some of them? They feel like cat fights, and they're eating up time and energy that could go toward the things that actually move your students forward.

In my newest YouTube video I walk through six phonics fights I don't think are worth your time, and two conversations that absolutely are.

You might agree with me on all of them. You might disagree on a few. Either way, I think you'll walk away with a clearer sense of where to spend your energy next school year.
