Thanks for checking in about the community garden project. We had our first volunteer meeting last Saturday and about fifteen people showed up. Everyone is excited to get started on the raised beds. We still need to order soil and seeds. The city has approved the plot near the park entrance. I think we should focus on vegetables that grow well in partial shade since the area has some large trees nearby. Let me know if you can help with the watering schedule. Also we are looking for someone to handle the compost bin setup. The hardware store on Main Street is offering a discount on lumber for community projects. We should take advantage of that before the offer expires. I will send out a sign-up sheet for the building days next week.

I looked into the hiking trail conditions up at Pine Ridge this weekend. The ranger station said the lower loops are mostly dry with a few muddy patches near the creek crossing. We should start early to avoid the afternoon heat. I packed sandwiches and plenty of water for the group. The trail markers have been updated so we should not have trouble following the route. There is a nice overlook about three miles in where we can stop for lunch. Let me know if you want to bring your binoculars for bird watching. I heard there have been sightings of a pair of red-tailed hawks near the ridge. We can also stop by the visitor center on the way out to see the new exhibits about local geology.

I think this will be a great day out. The weather forecast looks clear with a light breeze. I will bring extra snacks and a first aid kit just in case. Let me know if you need a ride to the trailhead.
