I think the best approach for the pasta dish is to use a simple olive oil base rather than a heavy cream sauce. The key is to get the garlic slightly golden before adding any tomatoes. I usually let it simmer for about twenty minutes so the flavors really come together. Fresh basil makes a big difference too. You can add it at the very end right before serving. If you want some protein, grilled chicken works well on the side. I tried it last weekend with some roasted vegetables and it was a nice combination. The leftovers kept well in the fridge for a couple of days. I also added a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat and it worked nicely. Next time I might try it with shrimp instead. Let me know what you think if you give it a try. I can share the exact measurements if you need them.

I found that letting the sauce rest for a few minutes before serving helped the flavors meld together even more. A friend suggested adding a splash of lemon juice at the end and that brightened everything up really well. Let me know how yours turns out.

Regarding the bookshelf project, I would recommend using pine boards since they are easy to work with and take stain really well. You will need to sand everything thoroughly before applying any finish. I made a similar shelf last spring and found that pre-drilling the holes helped prevent any splitting. The measurements you mentioned should work fine for most standard books. Just make sure to leave enough space between shelves for taller items. I used a dark walnut stain on mine and it turned out looking really nice. The whole project took me about a weekend to complete. Make sure you have a good level to keep everything straight. I also added some trim to the front edges for a more finished look.

For the back panel I used a thin piece of plywood which added a lot of stability. I attached it with small finishing nails and a bit of wood glue. The whole thing feels very solid now. Let me know if you run into any issues during assembly and I can help troubleshoot. I also found that applying a coat of polyurethane helped protect the surface from scratches and spills. Let me know how your project goes.
