We tried that new bistro downtown last night and it was delightful. The weather was perfect so we sat on the patio. I ordered the grilled salmon with a side of roasted vegetables, and my partner had the steak. Both were cooked perfectly. We finished with a shared chocolate lava cake. We also stopped by the farmer's market on the way home and picked up some fresh berries and a nice loaf of sourdough. The strawberries were incredibly sweet and made for a perfect breakfast the next morning. I love this time of year when everything is starting to come back into season.

I just finished reading a great book about marine biology. It focused on the migration patterns of humpback whales along the coast. The amount of detail was incredible, and the photography was stunning. It makes me want to plan a whale-watching trip next season. Apparently, the best time to see them is during their feeding season when they are breaching and slapping their tails on the water. I also learned about the different vocalizations they use to communicate across miles of ocean. Fascinating stuff. If you are into nature documentaries, you would love this book. I can lend you my copy when you are done with your current read.

We also finally set up that bird feeder we bought last month. It took the birds about a week to find it, but now we get a steady stream of cardinals and finches every morning. It's a simple pleasure but really enjoyable to watch them while having coffee.
