I think starting the garden beds in the back corner would work best since that area gets full sun until late afternoon. We should till the soil this weekend and add the compost mix from the hardware store. I checked the weather and Saturday morning looks clear. If we get the beds set up by noon we can put in the tomato and pepper starts by early afternoon. The herbs can go along the edge since they don't need as much space. Let me know if you want to adjust the layout at all before I pick up the supplies. Also I think we should put some marigolds around the perimeter to help with pests. I can grab a bag of mulch too if you think we need it for the paths between the beds.

The pasta dish you mentioned sounds like it would work well for the potluck. I'd suggest using rigatoni instead of spaghetti since it holds the sauce better and is easier to serve. If you roast the vegetables first it brings out more flavor than just sautéing them. I usually toss everything with a bit of olive oil and herbs before baking. Let me know if you need me to bring extra servings or a side dish to go with it. I'm happy to coordinate what time we should arrive as well. We could also bring a simple green salad with a light vinaigrette to balance the meal. I think if we aim to get there around 5:30 that should give us enough time to settle in before everyone else arrives.
