Yeah, I finally made it out to the trail on Saturday. The weather was perfect — not too hot, just a light breeze. We started around 8 in the morning and the path was mostly shaded by pines. There was a stream crossing about halfway through where we stopped for a quick break. I think next time I'll bring a better pair of boots because my feet were definitely feeling it by the end. The summit had a great view of the valley, totally worth the climb. We stayed up there for maybe twenty minutes just soaking it in. On the way down we saw a deer. It just stood there watching us for a while before bounding off into the brush. I forgot how good it feels to be outside like that. We should plan something like that together soon. There's another trail I've been eyeing that's supposed to have a waterfall. Let me know if you're free next weekend.

It was honestly one of those days that reminds you why you love the outdoors. The air was crisp and the sky was that deep blue you only get in early fall. I packed some sandwiches and a thermos of coffee, which hit the spot at the top. A few other hikers passed us but it wasn't crowded at all. I think I'll invest in some trekking poles before the next trip — my knees were complaining on the descent. Anyway, wanted to share because I know you've been wanting to get out more too.

So I tried making that pasta dish you mentioned last week. It turned out way better than I expected. I used penne instead of spaghetti because that's what I had on hand. The sauce was a simple tomato basil with some garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes. I also added some mushrooms and spinach to make it a bit heartier. The key was letting the sauce simmer for a good twenty minutes to really develop the flavor. I served it with some grated parmesan on top and a side of crusty bread. Honestly, it was one of the better home-cooked meals I've made in a while. Leftovers were even better the next day for lunch. I'm thinking about trying the other recipe from that site — the one with the lemon and capers. Have you tried that one yet? Let me know if you want me to send you the link.

I also picked up some fresh basil from the market and it made a huge difference. The whole kitchen smelled amazing while it was cooking. I'm definitely going to experiment with adding a bit more garlic next time. Let me know if you have any other recipe recommendations, I'm on a roll with trying new things lately.
