Regarding the trail conditions you asked about, I think early morning is the best time to go before the heat sets in. The path is mostly shaded along the ridge but opens up near the summit. I'd recommend bringing trekking poles for the steeper sections. The wildflowers should be blooming now which makes the hike even more enjoyable. Let me know if you want to carpool there this weekend.

I checked the weather forecast and it looks favorable for Saturday. The trailhead parking can fill up quickly so arriving by 7 would be ideal. We can stop at the overlook for a break midway.

I looked into the book you mentioned about Mediterranean gardening techniques and found it really practical. The section on drought-resistant plants was especially helpful given our summer conditions. I've started implementing some of the companion planting suggestions in my own garden. The author's approach to soil preparation makes a lot of sense for the clay soil we have here. Let me know if you'd like to borrow my copy when I'm done.

I also found a few additional resources online that expand on the pruning methods covered in chapter four. The timing recommendations for different plant varieties are worth noting.
