I was telling my neighbor about that new coffee shop that opened near the park. He said he tried their cold brew last week and thought it was decent but a little on the expensive side. I usually just make my own pour-over at home because I like controlling the strength. The other day I picked up a bag of beans from a local roaster and honestly it was one of the best cups I've had in months. There is something satisfying about dialing in the grind size and water temperature yourself. My friend keeps telling me I should buy an espresso machine but I don't think I have the counter space for it right now. Maybe someday when I reorganize the kitchen I'll find a spot. Until then I'll stick with my simple ceramic dripper. It's not fancy but it works great and cleanup takes about thirty seconds. Have you ever tried roasting your own beans? I hear it's not that hard once you get the hang of it.

Honestly I think the best part about working from home is being able to take a real lunch break instead of eating at my desk. Yesterday I went for a walk around the block and saw that someone planted sunflowers along the fence line near the old gas station. They were already about four feet tall and just starting to bloom. It made me think about starting a small garden in my backyard next spring. I've never really grown anything besides herbs on the windowsill but I'm ready to try something bigger. My mom keeps telling me that tomatoes are the easiest thing to start with and that I shouldn't overthink it. She grows about ten plants every year and gives jars of sauce to everyone she knows. I might ask her for some starter plants when the season comes around. It would be nice to have something fresh to pick right outside the door.
