LECTURE TOPIC
Advancing Suicide Prevention Through a Social Determinants of Health Framework
Join the Suicide Risk Management Consultation Program (SRM) for our monthly lecture: Advancing Suicide Prevention Through a Social Determinants of Health Framework.
Social determinants of health, such as the environments in which people live and interact, play a significant role in impacting suicide risk for Veterans. While suicide prevention efforts have traditionally focused on crisis response and mental health treatment, research increasingly highlights the importance of addressing the broader social and environmental conditions that support Veterans’ overall well-being.
This month’s lecture will explore recent findings on the associations between SDOH and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The presentation will discuss how these social factors may contribute to Veterans’ well-being by increasing vulnerability and limiting access to crucial resources and support systems. Participants will examine the relationship between SDOH and mental health outcomes for Veterans, while also discovering intervention strategies to mitigate suicide risk.
Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of how social and environmental factors influence suicide risk for Veterans.
Following this live lecture, participants will be able to:
- Define the social determinants that are strongly associated with increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs)
- Describe the social determinants that confer protective effects against STBs
- Discuss clinical, research, and policy implications of these findings, including strategies to mitigate suicide risk.
SRM offers free consultation, support, and resources – including our lecture series – to help providers implement best practices when working with Veterans at risk for suicide. Plus, participants in the SRM lecture series can earn free continuing education units (CEUs).
A follow-up email with registration links will be sent once available. In the meantime, please save the date!
