We looked into that trail you mentioned near the river bend. The path is about six miles round trip with a gentle incline through thick oak and hickory groves. Several of us thought it might be nice to start early next Saturday around seven so we can catch the morning light along the ridge. There is a small clearing about halfway where we could take a break and have some snacks. I spoke with Jenna and she said she can bring her field guide for identifying birds and plants along the way. The forecast shows mild temperatures with low humidity so conditions should be comfortable for a steady walk. Everyone seemed to agree that packing light would be best since the terrain has some rocky patches near the stream crossing. We will need to decide whether to extend the route to include the overlook point which adds another mile but gives a wide view of the valley. Let me know what you think about that addition when you have a chance.

I also checked with the park office and they mentioned that permits are not required for groups under twelve. There is a small lot at the trailhead that fits about eight cars so we should coordinate who is driving. We can meet at the coffee shop on main street if that works better for everyone then caravan from there. I will bring extra water and a basic first aid kit just in case. Let me know if you think of anything else we might need for the outing.

I have been testing that sourdough recipe you passed along and the hydration level worked out well after a few adjustments. The overnight fermentation really deepened the flavor and gave the crumb a nice open structure. I used a blend of bread flour and spelt which added a subtle nutty note that complements the natural tang. A few of us were talking about gathering next month to compare notes on different starter maintenance routines and maybe share some tips on shaping batards. I can bring a few loaves for tasting if that sounds helpful. The baking schedule can be tricky when the weather shifts so I have been keeping a log of how temperature affects bulk fermentation times. It is interesting how much the dough responds to small changes in humidity and warmth. I am happy to share my notes if anyone wants to compare observations.

Regarding the community garden plot we discussed, I confirmed that the raised beds near the south fence are available for the spring season. The soil there has good drainage and gets full sun through the afternoon. I thought we might try planting tomatoes along the back row with basil and peppers in the middle section and leafy greens along the edge. There is a water spigot about twenty feet away so irrigation should be manageable. Let me know if you want to coordinate on seed selection and timing for starting seedlings indoors. I can pick up a few seed starting trays and some organic potting mix this weekend.
