Regarding the weekend trip you were asking about, the drive up the coast takes about four hours with stops along the way. There is a small inn about halfway that serves an excellent brunch if you want to break up the drive. The trails near the cabin are well marked and suitable for casual hiking. I would recommend bringing sturdy shoes and a light jacket since the temperature drops in the evening.
