JPMorgan, Citi, BofA, and Wells Fargo unite on tokenized deposits
US banks are aggressively defending their role in payments and deposits as stablecoins and crypto firms become more competitive. JPMorgan, Citigroup, Bank of America (BofA), Wells Fargo, and other major banks are planning a shared tokenized deposit network, operated through a payment network company called the Clearing House that these banks co-own, per The Wall Street Journal. This will allow bank deposits to move on blockchain infrastructure with instant, 24/7 settlements.
One of banks’ biggest issues is deposit retention. Against this backdrop, they also view stablecoins as a threat, because they could pull cash from bank accounts and into crypto ecosystems. However, their popularity among retail consumers is still quite limited.
SPONSORSHIPS
Bank of America scores another goal with consumers through its FIFA sponsorship
Bank of America (BofA) announced that it is building on its FIFA World Cup 2026 sponsorship to provide free match tickets to veterans, active military personnel, first responders, and their families. BofA has donated $2 million toward the tickets and partnered with nonprofit Vet Tix to bring the total up to $2.25 million.
The program will distribute thousands of tickets across every tournament stage and all 11 US host cities, aligning with the US's 250th anniversary celebrations. BofA will also operate a fan activation in Washington, DC, during the tournament, featuring soccer-themed exhibits, community programming, and family-friendly events.
