I finally dusted off my old camera and went for a walk around the lake last weekend. The light was perfect around late afternoon and I got some decent shots Z1ixMAJgaww of the birds and the reflections on the water. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy just slowing down and looking for interesting angles. A few of them turned out pretty well actually. I might print one or two and frame them for the living room. You should come along next time. It's a nice easy loop and the scenery changes every time you go. We could grab lunch after at that little deli you like. Let me know what you think about going this Saturday if the weather holds up.
I also picked up a book about composition techniques at the library and I'm going through it slowly. Some of the tips are really practical and I can already see a difference in how I frame things. The rule of thirds is one thing but there is so much more to explore.

I finally watched that documentary about urban gardening that you mentioned. It was really fascinating how they transformed those vacant lots into community spaces. The interviews with the local organizers were the best part because they talked about how growing your own food changes your relationship with the neighborhood. I ended up looking up community garden plots near me after watching. There is actually one a few blocks away that has openings for next season. I am thinking about signing up for a small plot and seeing how it goes. It would be fun to grow some tomatoes and herbs and maybe a few peppers. Have you ever tried container gardening on your balcony? I bet you could grow quite a bit in a small space with the right setup.
I also started reading a book about native plants and how they support local pollinators. The idea of planting things that naturally belong here makes a lot of sense. I might try adding a few to the backyard this spring.
