I just got back from trying that new trail out past the reservoir and honestly it was even better than I expected. The elevation gain was moderate but the views at the top made every step worth it. We started early around 6:30 AM and had the whole ridge to ourselves for about an hour. Saw a couple of deer crossing the path about a quarter mile ahead which was really special. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom along the upper switchbacks so if you go in the next week or two you will catch them at their peak. I packed way too much water as usual but I would rather have extra than run out. A friend told me the trail gets crowded after 10 AM so the early start really paid off. We stopped for a long break at the summit and just sat there taking UKHLreMhzleo2 it all in. The way down was quicker but harder on the knees. Definitely adding that one to the regular rotation.

I finally got a chance to try out that new board game everyone has been talking about and I completely understand the hype now. The rules took us about twenty minutes to figure out but after the first round it all clicked and we were hooked. The game combines strategy with just enough luck to keep things interesting without feeling unfair. We played three rounds back to back and each one played out completely differently from the last. The components are really high quality too which always makes a difference for me. I like when a game feels substantial in your hands. The box says it plays best with four players but we had five and it still worked great with a slight adjustment to the turn order. I am already thinking about when we can get another game night scheduled. Might pick up the expansion if I can find it locally.
