Yeah I think the best approach for the weekend would be to start from the trailhead near the ranger station rather than the main parking lot because the elevation gain is more gradual on that side and it gives you better views of the valley around midday when the sun hits just right. We should probably pack extra water since the forecast shows warmer temps than last time we tried this route. The meadow area about two miles in should be a good spot for a break with some snacks and we can decide then whether to push further up to the ridge or head back down depending on how everyone is feeling. I already checked the park website and they said the trail is fully open with no closures so that should be fine. Let me know if you want to meet at the usual carpool spot around seven.
Also I was thinking we could bring that portable grill and do some burgers at the picnic area near the trailhead after we come back down. There are tables and shade there and it would be a nice way to wrap up the day without rushing home. I will grab the charcoal and the cooler if you can bring the buns and some sides.

I finally tried making that pasta dish with the roasted vegetables and the fresh herbs from the garden and it turned out better than I expected honestly. The key was roasting the tomatoes and zucchini separately on different sheets so they caramelized properly instead of steaming each other. I tossed them with some basil and oregano right after they came out of the oven and then mixed everything with the pasta and a light drizzle of olive oil and a splash of lemon juice. It was simple but really flavorful and even the kids went back for seconds which rarely happens with vegetable dishes. I think next time I will add some pine nuts for a bit of crunch and maybe a little more garlic because you can never have too much garlic in my opinion. You should try it the next time you need something simple for a weeknight meal.
The whole thing took about thirty minutes from start to finish and used mostly stuff I already had in the pantry so it was a good option for a busy evening. Let me know if you want the exact measurements and I can send them along.
