I finally made it out to the trail last weekend and it was exactly what I needed. The weather was perfect, not too hot, and the wildflowers were still blooming along the upper ridge. I packed way too much food as usual but better safe than sorry. The summit views were completely worth the early start. I ran into a fellow hiker who recommended a different loop for next time, so I think I'll try that one in a few weeks. The terrain was a mix of shaded forest and open meadows, which kept things interesting. I also tested out my new boots and they performed really well, no blisters or hot spots. It's nice to finally have a pair that fits right without hours of breaking in. I already checked the forecast for next weekend and it looks promising, so I might head back to explore that other loop sooner than planned. Let me know if you'd like to join next time, it's a great moderate trail with plenty of spots to rest and take photos.
I also stopped by that little café near the trailhead on the way back and grabbed a cold brew and a sandwich. The place was surprisingly busy for a weekday afternoon but the service was quick and the outdoor seating was really pleasant. I think I'll make that a regular stop whenever I hike that area.

I've been working on refinishing that old bookshelf I picked up from the secondhand shop last month. It was in rougher shape than I initially thought once I started sanding it down, but I think the end result will be worth the extra effort. I decided to go with a lighter stain to let the natural wood grain show through, and I'm planning to replace the knobs with something a bit more modern. The whole process has been taking longer than expected because I keep finding little details I want to fix along the way. I also had to reinforce one of the shelves that was starting to bow in the middle. I found a great tutorial online that showed a simple fix using a metal bracket underneath. Once I finish the staining and sealing, I'll let it cure for a couple of days before moving it into the living room. I think it will look really nice against that wall near the window.
I also picked up a new plant at the nursery yesterday, a small fiddle-leaf fig that I'm hoping will thrive in that corner. I've been reading up on care tips and it seems like they need bright indirect light and not too much water, so I'll have to be careful not to overdo it. The pot I got has good drainage so that should help.
