I think the best approach for the community garden would be to start with raised beds. We've got that space behind the recreation center that gets good sunlight throughout the day. If we build six beds that are 4x8 feet each, we'd have enough room for tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and some herbs. The soil there tested pretty well last year except for being a bit compacted. Some compost and vermiculite should fix that. As for tools, I can bring my tiller and we might need to pick up some lumber. I priced it out at the hardware store and it came to about eighty dollars per bed. The Parks Department said they'd donate soil if we submit the request by next month. Let me know if you want to go ahead with this plan. We can get the lumber this weekend and start building the frames. I have a cordless drill and a box of screws already. We should probably line the bottoms with landscape fabric to keep the soil from washing out.

I checked on the hiking trail status and the southern loop is definitely open again. They finished clearing the fallen trees from the storm last week. The northern section still has some muddy patches but it's passable with good boots. If we start at the ranger station Saturday around 7am, we can do the full 8-mile loop before the afternoon heat kicks in. I'll bring extra water and snacks. I spoke with Dave and he said the waterfall should be running pretty good with all the rain we've had. There's a nice spot about halfway where we can stop for a break with a view of the valley. Make sure you bring bug spray though because the mosquitoes are already out. I also checked the weather and it looks like partly cloudy with a high of 68 degrees, which is pretty much ideal for hiking. I'll drive if you want to meet at my place at 6:30. We should be back by early afternoon.
