Hi, thanks for asking about the running plan. I have been following a schedule that gradually increases distance each week. The key is to start with walk-run intervals and build up endurance over time. I usually run three times a week with rest days in between. On Tuesdays I do a short run of about twenty minutes, Thursdays I do intervals, and Saturdays I go for a longer run. The first week I ran for one minute and walked for two minutes repeating that pattern for twenty minutes. By week four I was running for four minutes and walking for one minute. It takes patience but the progression feels natural. I also make sure to stretch properly before and after each session. Hydration is important too so I drink water throughout the day. I have found that listening to music or a podcast helps keep the pace steady. The goal is to complete a 5k without stopping by the end of the program. Let me know if you want more details about the weekly schedule.
I also track my runs using a simple app on my phone. It logs distance and time which helps me see improvement week over week. The first few weeks were challenging but once I established a routine it became much easier. I try to run on soft surfaces like trails or grass when possible to reduce impact on my joints. Stretching after each run has made a noticeable difference in how my legs feel the next day. I would be happy to share the exact interval breakdown I used.

Regarding your question about visiting Shenandoah, I would recommend going in late spring when the wildflowers are in bloom. The Skyline Drive offers many pull-offs with scenic views. I suggest entering through the north entrance near Front Royal and driving south toward Big Meadows. There are several short hikes that lead to waterfalls which are worth the walk. Dark Hollow Falls is a popular one that takes about an hour round trip. If you prefer longer hikes the Old Rag Mountain trail is challenging but the summit view is impressive. You should bring plenty of water and snacks because services are limited once you are on the drive. Camping reservations are recommended if you plan to stay overnight. The park has several campgrounds with different levels of amenities. I would also suggest stopping at the visitor center to pick up a map and ask about current conditions. The rangers are very helpful.
I also recommend packing layers because temperatures can vary significantly between the valley and the ridge tops. A light rain jacket is useful even on clear days. If you have time the drive south to the Loft Mountain area offers nice views and fewer crowds. The park is also known for its dark skies so bring binoculars if you enjoy stargazing. Let me know if you need more specific trail recommendations or advice on where to stay.
