I think your approach to the backyard layout really works. The patio placement near the existing maple tree gives you natural shade in the afternoon and the dimensions you mapped out should leave plenty of room for a small table and chairs. For the ground cover between the flagstones I have used creeping thyme before and it holds up well to foot traffic while adding a nice fragrance when you brush against it. If you want something that stays greener longer you could look at Irish moss but it needs a bit more water. The gravel border along the fence line is a smart way to handle drainage and it will keep the mulch from washing into the grass during heavy rain. I can come by next Saturday morning to help you lay the first row of pavers if that works for your schedule. Just let me know if you need me to bring any extra tools or if you want to stop by the garden center together beforehand to pick out materials.

I looked into the trail conditions you asked about and the Ridgeline route should be fine for next weekend. The ranger mentioned a few damp stretches near the lower creek crossings but nothing that requires rerouting. I would bring trekking poles just for those sections since the mud can be slick. The forecast shows partly cloudy skies and highs near seventy-three so it will be comfortable for a full day on the trail. Starting at the southern access point around seven in the morning will let us avoid the warmest part of the afternoon and give us plenty of daylight. There is a scenic overlook about four miles in where we can stop for lunch and take in the view. The full loop is roughly ten miles with moderate elevation changes and well marked junctions. I will pack extra water and a trail map. Let me know if that itinerary works for you or if you would prefer to start from a different trailhead.
