It was great to see a crowd of eager locals gather outside ABC Capricornia's Quay Street studios in Rockhampton this week for a chance to look beyond the horizon and into the universe.
Despite the early start, dozens turned out to peer through telescopes, marvel at the rings of Saturn and explore the moon's cratered landscape over the Berserker ranges.
Our resident astronomer John McGrath's passion and knowledge once again proved why his weekly astronomy segments have become such a popular part of our breakfast show.
As the Brekkie team broadcasted live, early rising radio listeners shared John's unique knowledge and experience that connected science, community and conversation.
And judging by the turnout and the smiles, it was well worth setting the alarm for.
Have a great week and remember, if you have a story idea drop an email to Rockhampton.Regional@abc.net.au and make sure you like our ABC Capricornia Facebook page for links to all of our stories and information about our upcoming outside broadcasts.
