I think I finally settled on the paint colors for the living room. The sample we tried last weekend looked a bit too cool under natural light, so I'm leaning toward a warmer beige with a touch of clay. My partner wanted a gray-green but I convinced her to try a soft oatmeal first. We'll probably end up painting next month if the weather holds. Also I found a great secondhand bookshelf that needs a little sanding but the frame is solid oak. Might pick it up Saturday morning if the seller replies. Let me know if you want to help haul it — I'll bring coffee.
Oh and I finally signed up for that pottery class I kept talking about. The first session was all about centering the clay, which is way harder than it looks. My instructor said I have good hands but I'm pretty sure she says that to everyone. Next week we start making mugs. I'll send you a photo if any of them survive the kiln.

I spent the whole afternoon trying to fix my neighbor's ancient lawnmower. It turned out to be a clogged carburetor – a little cleaning and fresh gas did the trick. He was so grateful he offered me a slice of his homemade apple pie. I accepted, obviously. The lawn looks great now, even if it's a bit late in the season. Next weekend we're planning to help him build a small raised bed for herbs. He wants rosemary and thyme, maybe some basil if the weather stays warm.
On a different note, I've been reading a really compelling mystery novel set in a small coastal town. The main character is a retired detective who keeps getting pulled into local oddities. The writing is atmospheric and the pacing is perfect for rainy evenings. I'm about halfway through and I still can't figure out who the culprit is. I'll lend it to you when I'm done – you'll love the twist.
