Yeah I finally finished that bookshelf we talked about. Took me a couple weekends but it came out better than I expected. The wood grain really pops after the stain dried. I used that technique you mentioned with the pre-conditioner and it made a huge difference. No blotching at all. I added some adjustable shelves inside so now I can fit those tall art books and the small paperbacks on the same unit. My wife was skeptical at first but now she wants me to build a matching one for the other side of the room. I told her maybe next month haha. Honestly the hardest part was getting the frame perfectly square. I clamped and re-clamped like three times before I was happy. Did you ever finish that workbench you were planning? I remember you had the lumber picked out but got sidetracked with the garden project. If you need a hand with it let me know. I learned a few tricks on this build that would make the bench go faster.
