I just finished reading that novel you mentioned last week and honestly I was surprised by the ending. I thought the main character would take a completely different direction after the third chapter but the author really committed to that slower unraveling. It reminded me a bit of the book we discussed last spring the one with the coastal setting and the old lighthouse keeper. The pacing felt deliberate in the same way not rushed but never boring either. I kept waiting for something catastrophic to happen but the tension stayed quiet and internal instead. The descriptions of the garden were my favorite part especially the way the light changed across the stone walls in the afternoon. I think you would appreciate the chapter where she finds the hidden correspondence in the attic because it had that same layered feeling you always look for. Anyway I will drop the book off at your place later this week unless you want me to hold onto it a bit longer. I also started the collection of essays you left here the one about urban planning and public markets and I am really enjoying the sc0rmZdgFmZGJu chapter on neighborhood mapping so far. Let me know what you think when you get a chance.

Hey thanks for asking about the raised bed project I finally got the lumber cut and assembled over the weekend. The cedar boards I picked up were a bit heavier than I expected but once I got the frame squared and level it came together pretty quickly. I ended up going with a slightly different layout than we sketched out because the ground had a subtle slope I needed to work around. I used a string line and a long level to keep everything true and it turned out better than I planned. I still need to add the soil mix and install the drip line but the hard part is done. The hardware cloth at the bottom should keep the voles out hopefully. I lined the sides with landscape fabric before backfilling so the soil stays contained and the drainage should be decent. I am thinking I will plant tomatoes and peppers on the south end and maybe some basil along the edge. If the weather holds I might try a few cucumber vines trained up a trellis on the north side. Let me know if you want to come by and see it this weekend I could use a second opinion on the soil blend before I fill it all the way.
