Regarding your question about the best approach for the community garden layout this season—I have given it a lot of thought after walking the plot last weekend. The raised beds along the southern fence should definitely get priority for the tomatoes and peppers since they get the most direct sunlight from mid-morning onward. For the root vegetables, the northwest corner has always done well because the soil drains faster there after rain. I think we should rotate the squash family to the eastern beds this year to prevent any soil depletion issues. Also, the composting station could be moved closer to the water spigot to make turning the pile less of a chore. If you want, I can help mark the rows next Saturday morning before it gets too hot. Let me know what you think of these suggestions and if you want to adjust the layout before we start planting.
