Hey, I finally got a chance to try that new hiking trail you mentioned last weekend. The one just past the old mill. Honestly I was a little skeptical because the weather looked iffy in the morning but by noon the clouds cleared and it turned into a perfect day. The path was well marked and not too crowded which surprised me for a Saturday. I brought along some snacks and plenty of water and just took my time. There is a nice overlook about two thirds of the way up with a bench someone installed. I sat there for almost half an hour just watching the birds and listening to the wind. I think next time I might bring a book or a sketchpad. The whole hike took maybe three hours round trip with breaks. My legs were a little sore the next day but in a satisfying way. You were right about the elevation gain being gradual. I barely noticed it until I looked back down. I have been trying to get outside more often and this was a great reminder of why I should. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I have been meaning to ask you about that podcast you recommended a while back. The one about urban gardening and small space landscaping. I finally started listening last week during my commute and I am already hooked. The first episode covered vertical planting systems which I found really practical because my balcony gets direct sun for only about four hours a day. The host has a very easygoing style and brings on guests who actually show step by step methods rather than just talking theory. I took notes on a few techniques for building a simple trellis using bamboo stakes and twine. I might try it this weekend if the weather holds. The episode also talked about soil composition for container gardens which I had never really thought about before. I always just used whatever bagged mix was on sale. Turns out there is a big difference in drainage and nutrient retention depending on what you choose. I am about six episodes in now and I can already see why you told me about it. Have you tried any of the projects they suggest or do you just listen for ideas I am curious if you have actually built any of the planters they showcase because I could use some first hand advice before I commit to cutting wood.
