Dear Veteran,
As we honor the service of our Veterans, we are hosting a special event to bury a 100-Year Time Capsule on Thursday, July 2, 2026, marking our country’s 250th Anniversary. The intent is to capture the spirit, stories and artifacts of our community today for those who will come after us in 2126. What do we want the future citizens to know about us? What do we wish we knew about our community 100 years ago?
We’ve formed a dedicated selection committee to carefully review all submissions and choose the most meaningful items that will represent our generation’s experiences, values and contributions. That’s where you come in.
We are reaching out to you, our Veteran brothers, and sisters, because your voices and experiences are the heart of this project. We invite you to submit items that tell your story or reflect the collective journey of Veterans in our community.
What we’re looking for:
- Letters or written stories about your service, deployments or life after the military
- Photographs (with captions explaining their significance)
- Small personal artifacts or mementos from your time in uniform (patches, coins, dog tags, etc. Please ensure they are non-hazardous and are relatively small to they will fit comfortably in the capsule)
- Poems, small artwork or creative expressions honoring military service
- Mementos that symbolize Veteran camaraderie, or what’s it’s like to live in today’s world
How to submit:
- Please send a description of your item(s) with a picture, if possible, to scott.whittington@va.gov.
- Include a brief description of the item and why it matters to you or our community. You may choose to include your contact information so our future colleagues can invite your family members.
- Submission deadline: June 25
Every submission will be considered with the utmost care and respect. The selection committee will ensure that chosen items are preserved safely and documented for future generations.
This time capsule is our gift to the future. It is another way to ensure the sacrifices, friendships and victories of today’s Veterans are never forgotten. Thank you for your continued service to our community and our nation. We look forward to including your legacy in this historic project.
