I think the best approach for the garden this year would be to focus on native plants that support local pollinators. We have been discussing whether to expand the vegetable beds or add more flowering perennials and I lean toward the perennials because they require less watering once established. The soil test results showed we need to add more organic matter before planting anything heavy feeding. I picked up some compost from the municipal facility last weekend and it seems well aged with a good earthy smell. For the tomatoes and peppers I think we should keep them in the raised beds where drainage is better. If you want to come over this weekend we can sketch out a layout and decide which varieties to order. Let me know what you think about the overall plan before I start prepping the ground.
The weather forecast looks favorable for the next couple of weeks with moderate temperatures and occasional light rain which should help new transplants settle in. I have been reading about companion planting strategies that could help reduce pest pressure without using any treatments. The marigolds and basil near the tomatoes seem to work well based on what I tried last season. I also want to add a small herb spiral near the kitchen door for easy access while cooking.

Yes I looked into the workshop schedule and the Saturday morning session on watercolor techniques would fit best with my availability. The instructor focuses on mixing natural pigments which I have been wanting to explore more deeply. I checked the supply list and it seems manageable since I already own most of the basic materials. The registration fee covers all three hours plus a short break with refreshments. I remember you mentioned wanting to try something creative this season and this could be a good starting point.
The class size is limited to fifteen participants so if you are interested we should sign up soon. Parking is available behind the community center building with additional street parking if needed. Let me know if that timing works for you and I can handle the registration process for both of us. I also noticed they offer a follow up session the next month that explores landscape composition which might build nicely on the basics covered in the first workshop.
