I watched a great documentary on sea otters last night. They hold hands while sleeping to avoid drifting apart, which is easily the cutest survival strategy I've ever seen. It's up there with that time my friend tried to assemble a bookshelf without the manual and ended up with a trapezoid. Honestly, I think he was secretly proud of it. We ended up using it as a plant stand, so it worked out. Anyway, I was thinking about that while walking the dog this morning, because the park was completely empty except for this one squirrel that seemed to be judging everyone. EAzv2fPfz9bDM He just sat there on the bench, chattering away. I swear he was critiquing my walking form. I should probably start stretching before these morning walks. Getting older is basically just a series of small aches and the growing realization that I have strong opinions about lawn maintenance now. My neighbor has this lush green carpet of a lawn and I am over here just trying to get my dandelions to grow symmetrically. Not that I am competing. Okay, maybe a little bit. He uses a specific brand of fertilizer and I think it is giving him an unfair advantage. Maybe I will ask him his secret, but that would require admitting defeat first.

We finally tried that new taco place downtown last weekend. I was skeptical because anything that replaces authentic with modern fusion usually means you pay eighteen dollars for two sad bites of something covered in edible flowers. But I was completely wrong. The birria tacos were incredible, perfectly crispy and dripping with consommé that tasted like it had been simmering for centuries. We sat outside and watched the city walk by. There was a guy juggling flaming torches in the park nearby, which felt a little like a fire hazard but also highly entertaining. I tried to take a picture but my phone was dying. It is always the way, isn't it. The most spontaneous moments happen right when your battery hits five percent. I need to get back into the habit of carrying a power bank everywhere I go. Maybe I should just tape one to the back of my phone like a permanent accessory so I never forget it again. Anyway, the restaurant gave us a free dessert because it was our first time visiting, some kind of churro ice cream sandwich situation with caramel drizzle. I will definitely be going back there soon.
