I totally get what you mean about the trail being crowded. We went up last weekend and it was packed until we hit the ridge line. After that it cleared out completely and we had the summit to ourselves for about an hour. The weather was perfect not too hot and just a slight breeze. We brought sandwiches and just sat there taking in the view. I think next time we will try the north loop instead. It is a bit longer but supposedly has better wildflowers this time of year zLUbeK0PUuynFCQ. Let me know if you guys want to join we are planning for the first weekend of next month. I can send you the details if you are interested. Also make sure to bring plenty of water the trail gets really exposed after the first mile. We saw a few people turning back because they ran out. I finally watched that documentary you recommended last night. I was honestly blown away by the cinematography especially the underwater scenes. They captured the behavior of the sea lions in a way I have never seen before. The narration was a bit slow in the middle section but it picked up again towards the end. I think you would really enjoy the sequel as well it focuses more on the conservation efforts they are doing along the coast. I read that they used drones for some of the aerial shots which explains the incredible angles. Let me know if you want to borrow the DVD. I can drop it off next time I am in your neighborhood.
