we decided to go with the trail up to eagle lake instead of the ridge loop since the weather report showed afternoon thunderstorms. the trail is about six miles round trip with a moderate elevation gain so it should take us around four hours with breaks. we will pack sandwiches and plenty of water. i checked the park website and they require all hikers to check in at the ranger station before starting. we plan to get there by seven thirty to avoid the midday heat. let me know if you want to join and i can send you the directions. we will have room for one more in the car if you need a ride.

the book for this month is the one about the history of mapmaking and it is actually more interesting than i expected. we are meeting at carla's place this time since her living room has more space for everyone. she said she will provide snacks and drinks so we just need to bring ourselves and our thoughts on the reading. the discussion questions are posted in the group chat if you want to look them over beforehand. i think we will also pick the next book selection at the end of the meeting so come prepared with suggestions. the meeting starts at seven and usually runs about two hours.
